Zoom Appeal

Help Us Move Zoom to a New Level

The use of Zoom (or similar conferencing software) has made a major improvement in Beit Shalom’s ability to reach out to a wider number of our congregants and their families.  The Board has decided to invest $3000 in making Zoom a permanent feature of our services and other activities.  The funding will purchase a dedicated computer, a high-quality camera able to zoom and pan, and hook-ups to our internal speaker system and large TV on a portable stand.

This setup will allow those in the sanctuary to see those at home on the large TV; it will allow those at home to speak, read prayers and participate so that the sound will be heard from the speakers in the sanctuary or in Rose Harrison Hall.  The sound in the shul will be picked up by our existing high-quality microphones and no longer be limited to the tiny microphone on a computer sitting on the lectern. The camera has the functionality to focus on the Rabbi and whoever is at the lectern and then follow people as they move to the ark or even carry the Torah around the sanctuary.

With this setup, people from the congregation at home or friends and family anywhere in the world will be able to see and hear better quality video and sound and even participate in a service or education program. We are planning to broadcast our entire High Holy Days services and this equipment will make it a memorable event with viewers able to hear the choir and even read prayers from home.

We need to raise $3000 for this set of improvements. If you have used Zoom; if you want to help those who are unable to attend the synagogue; if you have friends and family far away you would like to share our services with – please make a donation.
