We need YOUR help to Build the Future of Beit Shalom & Our Community

Renovations to our building are necessary to ensure the survival of Beit Shalom and the SA Jewish Community.

Beit Shalom is the largest Jewish institution in South Australia. The changing needs of our community mean our building must cater to both older members and the younger demographic, who attend community events more than religious services.

We aim to be a centre for Jewish activities in Adelaide. The renovations will ensure we are attractive and welcoming to the next generation of Jews in South Australia, while serving our existing members by:

• renovating the hall with a modern design and incorporating a closed storage area for chairs and tables plus a new classroom/meeting room, stage facilities, new carpeting, new ceiling and new skylights.
• redesigning the kitchen for efficient use and replacing old appliances
• replacing our toilets to provide an access toilet and modern facilities for all
• widening the hallway from the toilets to the hall to allow wheelchair access
• sloping the hallway to the hall to allow removal of the ramp inside the hall
• adding a storage room for the kitchen and office supplies

This is a generational project. After 60 years of operation, Beit Shalom and many other synagogues face both an ageing membership and a large unaffiliated younger cohort, who acknowledge their Judaism, but attend festival celebrations and social/ cultural events more often than religious services. This renovation caters to both groups and will result in Beit Shalom meeting our member's and the wider Jewish community's needs into the future.

After the design by KHAB Architects and a tender process, we have chosen MKRA Pty to do the renovations starting on 17 June. Completion is estimated as early September. We have some invested funds earmarked for building that will partially fund this project. But we need to raise at least $250,000 to be able to complete all of the renovations.
